Day 1 - Coastal Glam Camping!
Today is our first full day in Auckland. We arrived at our accommodations that will be our base in New Zealand at almost midnight last night after getting through border control, getting our luggage and acquiring our rental car. It was Jimm’s first time driving on the opposite side of the road, but luckily since it was so late, there was very little traffic and he was able to get accustomed to it pretty quickly. The hardest part about the day was finding the house we are staying at. I accidentally typed the address wrong into Google (putting 16 instead of 61) and for about 15 minutes we were trying to get into someone else’s home! 😬 Luckily no one called the police and after talking to our host via phone we were able to find the correct spot. We were greeted with an amazing night view of the Auckland harbor (I will take a picture later this week, I was too tired last night).
This morning we took in the view above while having our coffee. Now it is on to our first adventure…Coastal Glam Camping! After we grab lunch in town and pick up a few provisions, we will be driving south about and 90 minutes to the Castaway Resort on the west coast near Karioitahi Beach. They have coastal glam camping sites link here. I found out about this place on a blog I was following when preparing for this trip. It looked super fun so we decided to give it a try. Each camp site features an ensuite, kitchen, king bed, central heating, indulgent outdoor bath and stunning views of the Tasman Sea. We are provided with a gourmet dinner and breakfast package complete with cooking instructions plus, treats and wine! I will give a full report on our experience tomorrow and let you know whether we would recommend it. One of the best things I love about traveling is finding and trying new and unique experiences. This is definitely one of those!
