Day 39 - Waterfalls, Reindeer and Rainbows
July 30, 2023: We had a nice breakfast at the cabin and then started to make our way to Trondheim. It is a 3-4 hour drive from Røros to Trondheim when you take the route through the mountains where we would be able to see the reindeer the family owns who we had met the night before. They are able to run free in the area and that is exactly what they do! We saw them running along the road. Check out the video on my Facebook page. I will also have them posted on this site after we return to Florida and I get a chance to get them uploaded and linked to the Photos and Videos page. It was an incredibly beautiful drive.
Trondheim is known as the city of innovation and the knowledge capital of Norway. The University of Science & Technology is located here, which is the largest university in Norway. There are over 40,000 students living in Trondheim. An interesting fact is that the city’s founder was a Viking King. Viking King Olav Tryggvason founded the city as a trading post in the year 997. It was frequently used as the seat of the king, and therefore served as the capital of Norway at that time.
We stayed at nice hotel called Quality Hotel Prinsen in the middle of town. Once we were settled, Jimm and I took a walk down to the waterfront to stretch our legs. We have been so used to walking lots of steps everyday, but the last few days we had been in the car quite a bit. We found a couple place to stop and have an Apertivo and small bite to eat.
For dinner, we went to “Tyholttårnet” or Tryholt Tower. It is a 124 metre tall radio tower with an observation deck. The tower features a revolving restaurant called Egos, which makes one complete revolution per hour. The view was amazing, but we all agreed that the service and food was not the best. We did get some great pictures and saw a beautiful rainbow across the city. It was a very nice end to a long day of traveling.
