Day 41 - Olympic Park, Lillehammer and Slippen
August 1, 2023: We are on Day 40, almost a month and half since we left Florida. We have been to 19 cities, town and villages (Florence, Venice, Murano, Burano, Lucca, Viareggio, Rome, Milan, Lake Como, Bellagio, Menaggio, London, Watford Junction, Edinburgh, Stirling, Fredrikstad, Røros, Trondheim, and Lillehammer) with more still to come. It has been an amazing journey so far. Each part of the trip has been so different, but all have been a joy to discover.
Today we grabbed breakfast and then headed to out to see Olympic Park where the 1994 Winter Olympics (XVII Olympic Winter Games) and the 2016 Winter Youth Olympics were held. I had been to the site before, but this was Jimm’s first time seeing it. We came on the perfect day because there were ski jumpers practicing. I did not realize you could practice ski jumping in the summer 🤯! It was amazing to watch. We saw where the Olympic torch was placed during the games. We talked to Marit and Knut about what it was like during the games and got some great views of the area around the park.
Then we were on the road again, heading back to Fredrikstad. It was a shorter drive, only a little over 3 hours from Lillehammer. We had to make our second stop for buns at Espa Boller on our way back. When we got back, we rested for a few hours before heading down to riverfront for dinner at restaurant called “Slippen”. In the building where the restaurant is located, schooners have been baked for the sailing ships, blocks of ice have been stored, fishing boats have been repaired and engines have been produced. In 2010, bought FM Eiden bough the old workshop and converted it into a restaurant and music stage. They mostly serve seafood. Jimm and Knut had oysters and we all had various forms of fish for our main course along with delicious bread. It was definitely a culinary experience and we all loved our meals.
After dinner, it was time to pack our bags again for our next trip to Askim and then Kristiansand my cousin Marit and her husband Rune. I am very much looking forward to reconnecting with them.
