Day 2 - A walk around Florence

June 23, 2023: WOW! Florence is amazing! We are only one day in and we have already fallen in love with this beautiful city ♥️

The day started with a walk to the grocery store to pick up “provisions” for our stay. We stopped along the way for a caffè at Gino’s Bakery. So many delicious items at the grocery store…fresh bread, authentic cheese, wine, sushi(!), fresh pasta, fresh vegetables, fresh, fresh, fresh. We picked up enough to get us by for a week and then headed back to our home away from home.

Next in our itinerary was to get a lay of the land. So we started out by walking to the train station since we will be needing to do that several times during our trip. We found that it is an easy walk and with Jimm’s crazy brain of going somewhere one time and never forgetting it again, we are set. We stopped at Babe Wine Window (which is a an absolute must see) on the way back and had an Aperol Spritz and Prosecco. It was fun experience. We also stopped at a few shops and kiosks. While at the Piazza del Republicca, we stopped to see a number of the statue replicas (see photos) and grabbed a Negroni and Limoncello Spritz (when in Florence, do as the Florentines do!). By the way “Per me uno Spritz Grazie” means “Pour me a Spritz please!”

On the way back to our Airbnb, Jimm suggested we take a detour through a small alley and we ran into an amazing wine bar (Enoteca Obsequium Wine Bar). Absolutely would recommend to anyone coming to Oltrarno area. There, sitting outside at a small table, we met two women from Amsterdam. This readers, is what I love about traveling. We had amazing time chatting and getting to know them while enjoying our Tuscany wine tasting. It was clear they were also well traveled and we had a great time swapping stories. We exchanged contact information and my hope is that we will connect again sometime in the future either virtually or physically (Flo, I am counting on you!!). All in all, just an amazing first full day of our trip. Shortly we will head out for dinner at Gustaosteria Restaurante, a place recommended by our Airbnb hosts. I will let you know tomorrow if we also would recommend.

Jimm rating: ***** (5 out of 5!!)
