The official name of Big Island is Hawaii and it is both the youngest and largest of the islands.
It is home to about 13% of Hawaii’s state population. Measured from its sea floor base to its highest peak, Mauna Kea is the world's tallest mountain, taller than even Mount Everest.
It is also home to two active volcanoes, Mauna Loa and Kīlauea.
