Day 12: Toasties and Raclettes…yum!
Today was pretty low key day, very few photos as the only real thing we had on the agenda was to go to the Maltby Market which I had heard about on Instagram. We took the train and then walked 20 minutes to get there. Unfortunately, we were disappointed with what we found. There were a handful of food stalls, but little else available, very few shops or anything else to peak our interest. So we left pretty quickly and went to Borough Market again instead. We wanted to pick up some more cheese, meat and bread for a night in at our flat. We also wanted to try the Toasties and Raclettes from Kappacasein Dairy which we had seen on the London episode of Somebody Feed Phil and they weren’t open last time we visited the market. There was a large queue of people waiting when we arrived.
Kappacasein’s raclettes are made using a generous helping of owner Bill Oglethorpe’s Bermondsey-made Ogleshield cheese piled atop new potatoes, baby gherkins and pickled onions. The famous toastie is made with a combination of Montgomery cheddar, Ogleshield, London raclette, comte, onions and leeks sandwiched between slices of sourdough. I had them skip the onions and leeks (no one who knows me will be surprised at that). Both items were absolutely heaven if you are a cheese lover like I am! We spent some time walking around the market grabbing the items we needed. I also had to have some more of the amazing strawberries and chocolate. When we had gathered everything, we walked back to the train station. After arriving back at Charing Cross Station, we took another long walk to make a reservation for an escape room at Escapeland on Oxford Street. I will share more about that in my blog tomorrow. Then it was quick walk back to our flat to do some laundry and some pre-packing. It’s hard to believe we will be leaving on Friday. Tonight we are just enjoying a night in with some wine and our homemade charcuterie. Another successful day for the step count!
