Day 13: Tottenham Court & Soho Area
I am a day late posting my blog! Yesterday we hung out in the Tottenham Court area and had three things on our agenda: Escapeland, The Outernet, and early dinner at Circolo Popolare. Escapeland is an escape room company in London that has great reviews. We love escape room so we decided to give their Davinci Exploration room a try. It was recommended that you have at lease 3 people to finish the room, but we only had the two of us so we decided to give it a try knowing we might not be able to finish and solve the room’s final puzzle. They were right. We did not escape the room. We needed another person or another 20-30 minutes, but even though we didn’t complete it, it was a great escape room. The puzzles and details in the room were challenging and well done. We would highly recommend this experience 👍 .
Next up was The Outernet. This venue features Europe's largest and most advanced digital screens, including high-resolution wrap-around screens in The Now Building. They have The World of Tetris where visitors are invited to take part in the biggest multi-player game of Tetris ever. The huge game plays across Outernet's screens and stretches 4-stories high. When we stopped by, all the player spots were full and when it finished we didn’t have enough time before the next game, so we will be heading back there later this week to give it a try. It is definitely a cool area with various digital displays throughout the day and a app with the timing of each display. One is an advent calendar that reveals a new window each day and allows visitors to enter in a contest for prizes, unfortunately you have to be a UK resident.
Finally, we had early dinner reservations at a restaurant called Circolo Popolare, a very popular Italian restaurant that requires reservations 30 days in advance. We were only able to get a 4:00pm reservation, but we booked anyway and were not disappointed. The ambience of the room feels like Italy and many of the wait staff were from Italy. The food was amazing! We had some pasta made for two called Cacio e Pepe, home-made spaghetti alla chitarra served in the whole round of pecorino, pecorino & black pepper sauce. It was delicious! We paired it with a great 2021 bottle of Primivito from the Puglia region of Italy and followed it up with some tiramisu for Jimm and donatella banana for me with caramelised banana, biscoff and fior di latte ice cream, topped with whipped & banana cream, caramel, biscoff crumble. We were quite satisfied when we walked back to our flat. We went out a little later for a walk about the Covent Garden Apple Market to feel the Christmas spirit in the air and listen to some Christmas music. It is such a magical time of year here in London.
