Day 50 - Øyafestivalen 2023!

Town of Son and the Øyafestivalen in Oslo

August 10, 2023: Today we headed toward Oslo. We made a stop in the town of Son, which has another beautiful harbor and had lunch a wonderful restaurant with a water view called Restaurant Sjøboden. Per and Eva each had a bucket full of mussels, I had a burger and Jimm had a Poke bowl all while enjoying a beautiful view. Then we drove the rest of the way to Oslo where we connected with my cousin Jon. He drove us the rest of the way and dropped us off at our hotel so we could check in and drop off our bags. A short while later we met he and his wife Maria and picked up our wristbands for Øyafestivalen.

Øyafestivalen is an annual pop and rock festival held in August in Tøyenparken in Oslo. Started in 1999, it has become one of Norway’s biggest and most important music festivals. There was a great line-up of bands, some I knew and some I had never heard of, but also really enjoyed. The headliner was Blur, and English rock band from the late 80s. The band helped to popularise the Britpop genre and achieved mass popularity in the UK, aided by a chart battle with rival band Oasis in 1995 dubbed "The Battle of Britpop". We haven’t been to a festival in quite a while, but really enjoyed the show and the vibe of the festival.

At the end of the evening we had a nice walk through Oslo back to our hotel. Our bodies were definitely tired and sore after standing the entire time at the concert, so we were happen to fall into bed at the end of the night!
