Day 51 - The Local Side of Oslo

August 11, 2023: Friday we woke up and grabbed lunch at a local coffee shop, then we met up with my cousin Jon again. He promised us a local tour of Oslo, no touristy destinations, and he delivered! We went to a place called Vippa that was basically like a bunch of food trucks in a warehouse along with a bar that served a bunch of different beers, wines and ciders. Vippa Oslo is a food, culture and education centre located at the edge of Vippetangen, right by the Oslo Fjord. It was a beautiful day out so we sat outside next to the water and enjoyed our food and drinks.

After lunch, we headed to the Financial District and grabbed a cocktail at the VentiVenti Restaurant just outside the Astrup Fearnley Museum of Art and near the Tjuvholmen Sculpture Park. Along the way we took in the amazing architecture of the area and beautiful waterfront.

Next up, we decided to head to Jon’s favorite brewery/bar called The Crow Bar. They had several craft beers on tap and some ciders for me that were delicious! It was fun to be in a local bar and experience what the Oslo scene is like, which we realized is not much different in many aspects from the scene in the U.S. Jon hung out with us as long as he could, but Øyavestivalen was calling him (they had tickets for the entire entire weekend), so we said our goodbyes and headed out to find something for dinner. We settled on a restaurant called Olivia that is a chain restaurant located in several cities in Norway. It is one that Jon takes the family to on occasion, so we decided to try it. It was good, we book ordered pasta, but after eating in Italy for almost 4 weeks, it was a little bit of a disappointment. From there, we headed back to the hotel and packed our bags to be ready to check out in the morning. Just a few more days in Oslo before heading to Iceland!
