Northside Drive and Hike - Day 17

Standing on the Black Sand Beach of Pololu Valley

Standing on the Black Sand Beach of Pololu Valley

May 5th, Day 17 - I am behind on my posts because we have been SO busy!! Wednesday we decided to take a drive Pololu Valley Lookout so see the black sand beach. The drive took us about an hour along the northwest side of the island around the upper tip. We stopped at a breakfast restaurant recommended by Joe and Cheryl last week called Hawaii Style Cafe. It was definitely a hit with this crew! The food was absolutely delicious! I had the banana macadamia nut pancakes. Sooo good :). The drive up the mountain after breakfast was stunning, but the hike was the real winner of the day. The distance from the overlook point to the valley floor is 490ft down a steep trail. Along the way are breathtaking views of the cliffs, the valley and the black sand beach on the valley floor. Coming back up the hill was a bit more challenging and we were all winded by the time we got back up to our car, but it was definitely worth it. It was Cinco de Mayo, so when we got back to our hotel, we got ready for a night out on the town at Pancho And Lefty’s Cantina & Restaurante. We couldn’t make a reservation, so we had a long wait to get in (because of course everyone else had the same idea!), but we were glad we waited. We stopped in at Sam’s Hideaway for some $4 margaritas while we waited for our table. It was a really fun night to cap off a great day. We can’t believe our 3rd week is 1/2 way over…
